What Is Transthyretin Amyloid Cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM)? | Dr. Daniel Zanger

You may have heard the term ATTR-CM and wondered what it means. In this video, Dr. Daniel Zanger explains transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM), a rare but serious heart condition that occurs when a protein called transthyretin changes shape and forms amyloid deposits in the heart.

These amyloid deposits can build up over time, causing the heart muscle to become stiff and thick. As a result, the heart has a harder time pumping blood effectively, which can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and swelling in the legs.
