Transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) may be associated with a reduced risk of Alzheimer disease, according to the preprint of a large nationwide study conducted in France.

This finding calls for more research into the underlying biological mechanisms of the diseases or possible diagnostic bias.

To assess the possible link between ATTR-CM and Alzheimer disease, 2 age-related diseases, a team of researchers led by Antoine Garnier-Crussard, MD, from Hospices Civils de Lyon in Villeurbanne and the Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon in Bron, France, analyzed data from the French National Health Data System between 2019 and 2023.
