Patients With ATTR-CM and Heart Failure Shown to Have Frequent Outpatient Clinic Visits

Older patients hospitalized due to heart failure in the US were cared for with frequent outpatient clinic visits before and after heart failure hospitalization, regardless of whether they had transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM), according to a new study published in the European Journal of Heart Failure.

The majority of patients had at least 1 clinic visit with a cardiologist.

The study also reported that the frequency of outpatient clinic visits and access to subspecialty clinics were especially high for patients with ATTR-CM and heart failure.

“Continued efforts are needed to ensure that these high volumes of clinic visits are efficiently utilized to deliver high-value care, including optimization of medical therapies proven to improve patient outcomes,” the authors wrote.
