The Importance of Making ATTR-CM Terminology Accessible to Everyday People

Key Information
summary/abstract

I’m living with transthyretin-mediated amyloid cardiomyopathyexternal link, opens in a new tab (ATTR-CM). Some days, if I’m honest, I feel completely lost in it, like I’m stuck in a world I didn’t choose and don’t fully understand.

I scroll through support groups and see articles posted about new ATTR-CM findings, medications, and clinical trials. I want to understand it; I really do. But a few lines into these articles and reports, I get overwhelmed. The words blur together, and the terminology feels like a foreign language.

I don’t have a medical degree. I’m not trained in biochemistry. I’m just me, living with this rare disease, trying to make sense of a rogue gene that has shaped so much of my life.
