Tanya Tucker is among the first patients in the U.S. to receive CAR T-cell therapy in a clinical trial for relapsed or refractory AL amyloidosis.
For months, Tanya searched for answers as dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue and other symptoms worsened. After extensive testing and appointments with multiple specialists, she was referred to oncologist Dr. Shahzad Raza. After confirming Tanya had systemic light-chain (AL) amyloidosis, Dr. Raza ordered standard chemoimmunotherapy treatment. But when blood tests showed she wasn't responding as hoped, Dr. Raza presented Tanya with two options: undergo a bone marrow transplant or enroll in an early-phase clinical trial studying CAR T-cell therapy, which uses a patient's own immune cells to target disease.
