Hartmut Schmidt is the Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Endocrinology, Diabetology, and Infectology at the University Hospital Muenster. He completed his MD at the age of 25 years from Medical University of Hannover in Germany. He received postdoctoral training in gastroenterology at Medical University of Hannover, NIH (Bethesda), Charite (Berlin), and Universitatsklinikum Munster. His research interest is in synaptic transmission and plasticity at individual synapses and in small networks.
